Scotland 1 Bosnia-Hercegovina 0, October 5th 1999

Scotland have completed the Group Nine qualification picture with a 1-0 win over Bosnia-Hercegovina at Ibrox Park.

The Czech Republic qualified from the section by winning it in June but the Sots have now taken the place on offer in the November play-offs with one game to go.

The game itself was poor but the home team got the result they wanted when John Collins cored his first goal for his country since the penalty kick against Brazil in June 1998 for the first goal of France 98.

Collins' strike again came from the penalty spot after midfielder David Hopkin was pulled to the ground in the 26th minute. The Everton payer hit the ball into the bottom corner of the net although the penalty award seemed harsh. The goal rendered the home game against Lithuania a meaningless run out but coach Craig Brown told reporters after the game that he intended to experiment as improvement was needed before the play-offs started where several top teams could be involved. Celtic striker Mark Burchill and goalkeeper Jonathan Gould have already been put on standby to start the game .
