Bayern Munich have ruled influential French international Bixente Lizarazu out of their Champions League quarter final on Wednesday night against FC Porto.
Bayern have home advantage after the first leg and an away goal to smooth their passage into the semis but the loss of the left sided defender has added to the tension in the Bayern camp after a poor display in the 2-1 defeat by TSV 1860 in Saturday's Munich derby.
The injury to Lizarazu adds to a casualty list of experienced performers. Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn was concussed in a victory at Duisberg last week when a fan hit him with a golf ball thrown from the stands. He was very poor against TSV and ideally would have been rested by the German champions after his head injury. The defeat by TSV also saw midfield play maker Stefan Effenberg injured. Effenberg will miss the visit of the Portuguese champions after tearing a thigh muscle in an incident that could end his season.
Lizarazu strained his groin in a training run this morning and could miss the next three weeks. The French international has also been linked with a summer move to Liverpool. The Anfield club have remained interested in the left back since before the last World Cup.
