SS Lazio want Italy star Buffon

First Published: Apr 28, 2000

SS Lazio want Parma AC goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to join them in the summer - and have agreed another year's coaching for Sven Goran Eriksson at the Rome club.

Buffon is the number one Italian international at the moment and broke into the Parma side as a 17 year old six years ago.

He is currently the highest paid goalkeeper in the world and rated at £12 million on the transfer market and Lazio may offer Chile striker Marcelo Salas as part of the deal.

Eriksson has agreed another year with Lazio according to OM player Ivan De La Pena and his agent. The Spaniard was released last year after a £14 million move from FC Barcelona to play in France with OM on loan. De La Pena's management tried to clarify his contract position earlier this week and were told that the Lazio management position would remain unchanged this summer with Eriksson - who had been a target for Fiorentina - staying as coach.
