Yugoslav international Sinisa Mihajlovic has decided not to quit Euro 2000 over claims from Belgrade that he has joined the Serbian Socialist Party.

The Socialist party are led by Serb president Slobodan Milosevic and television stations reported earlier this week that SS Lazio star Mihajlovic had applied to join the ruling party.

Mihajlovic wqas furious at the reports and told Italian reporters that he was approached to be an unofficial 'sporting ambassador' for Yugoslavia and had agreed but now wanted a full apology from the Belgrade administration over the muddle.

The player - who holds the Serie A record for scoring from free kicks - receieved an apology from the Yugoslav sporting ministry over the confusion.
