Spain make do after injury blows

First Published: Feb 18, 2000

Spain coach Juan Antonio Camacho has tried to salvage a decent squad for the trip to Croatia despite a rash of injuries.

The Spanish were impressive qualifiers for the finals in June and face Croatia in Split on Wednesday night.

Camacho has seen top strikers Raul and Morientes ruled out and has turned to Valladolid striker Victor Fernandez who has scored 11 goals so far for the Primera Liga strugglers. Fernandez is an almost certain starter along side either Salva Ballesta who may earn his second inclusion in the side with Ismael Urzaiz set to start.

The squad in full -

Goalkeepers - Molina and Garcia.

Defenders - Hierro, Velasco, Romero, Aranzabal, Jemez and Abelardo.

Midfielders - Valeron, Luis Enrique Martinez, Engonga, Mendieta and Gonzalez.

Strikers - Ballesta, Munitis, Etxeberria, Urzaiz and Fernandez.
