Chelsea midfielder Didier Deschamps spent the night in hospital after suffering concussion in the 2-1 home defeat by SS Lazio.

The French World Cup winner fainted after the game having been struck on the head by an arm blow from Diego Simeone on a bad night all round for the London club.

Chelsea lost their 42 year unbeaten record in European football and the first place qualification spot in Group D. They are now certain to meet Manchester United, FC Barcelona or Bayern Munich after tomorrow's quarter final draw in Zurich.

Dechamps has now left medical care and is fit to train tomorrow.
