Italy's front line for the friendly against Spain on Wednesday has been hit hard by injuries with Vincenzo Montella and Christian Vieri both withdrawing before coach Dino Zoff announced his 22 man squad.
This allows Zoff the chance to call up SS Lazio striker Simone Inzaghi, the younger brother of Juventus forward Filippo Inzaghi who is a regular in the national team squad.
Vieri was injured on his return to the Internazionale first team in a 1-0 defeat at Lecce. The striker has strained a thigh muscle and will miss the next two weeks at least for Inter.
Montella scored AS Roma's goal in the 2-1 derby defeat against SS Lazio but played with a sore knee from an injury suffered in training and misses the Spain friendly.
SS Lazio transfer targets goalkeeper Francesco Toldo and Udinese midfielder Stefano Fiore are included by Zoff who also brings Milan veteran Demetrio Albertini back into his midfield selections.
