Sweden's Schwarz to miss rest of the year

First Published: Mar 30, 2000

Swedish international Stefan Schwarz is out of this summers Euro 2000 tournament after ripping his Achilles tendon.

The midfielder suffered the injury during last nights 1-1 friendly draw with Austria. Doctors have said that it could be up to five months before the player would be able to start light training although with such a severe injury Schwarz is likely to be out for the rest of the year.

The news will not only come as a severe blow for Sweden but it will be very disappointing for Sunderland who will be without the Swede’s services for the rest of the Premiership season. Sunderland are currently pushing for a top six finish which would see them qualify for a place in next seasons UEFA Cup.
