Olympiakos fine Zahovic and want to sell rebel

First Published: Mar 30, 2000

Olympiakos have dumped Slovenian star Zlatko Zahovic on the transfer market after the attacking midfielder rowed angrily with team coach Bigon this week.

Zahovic was signed from FC Porto last August but went to reporters in the autumn saying that he wanted to quit Greek football. He helped the Slovenian national team to their first major finals with a play-off win over Ukraine to get to Euro 2000 in June.

Zahovic is certain to be picked for the major finals but his club career looks set to stall as Olympiakos clash with the player following his reaction to a substitution in the game with Panathinaikos. The 2-2 drew saw Zahovic storm down the player's tunnel after Bigon withdrew him from the game and the two had a bust up in the dressing room after the game.

Olympiakos have fined the player who has three years left to run on his contract with them £25,000 for his actions after the game and are to offer him for bids with Porto keen to take their former star back.
