Dutch want Rijkaard to stay as coach after Euro 2000

First Published: May 24, 2000

The Dutch football federation (KNVB) want coach Frank Rijkaard to stay in charge of the national team no matter what happens in Euro 2000 next month.

Rijkaard’s Holland are among the favourites but have won only two of their last fourteen matches as the former AC Milan star grooms a side to challenge for the European Championships. Holland co-host the event which starts on June 10th with Belgium.

The KNVB expressed "total faith" in Rijkaard in a press release this morning and want him to stay on and take charge of the 2002 World Cup campaign which starts in September. Rijkaard’s present contract ends in July but he is likely to stay on after the KNVB’s offer.
