Larsson gets Euro 2000 chance

First Published: May 26, 2000

Glasgow Celtic striker Henrik Larsson has been called up by Sweden for Euro 2000 after playing less than 25 minutes of football since October.

The Swede top scored for Celtic last season and came on as a second half substitute last weekend in the last match of the Scottish Premier League season. He needed two operations after breaking his leg in two places in a UEFA Cup tie last October which immediately threatened his place in Swedeen's Euro 2000 plans.

As late as last month the striker was pessimistic about his chances of playing in the Euro finals after a leg injury suffered in February for Celtic reserves as he tried to complete a very fast comeback from the broken leg. Now the forward has been included in the group of players which chief coach Tommy Soderberg will reduce to 22 names for the finals by next Thursday's UEFA deadline.
