Influential Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids has gone for an operation on a foot injury and may miss Euro 2000.
The Juventus star missed missed last night's 2-1 friendly win over Romania in Amsterdam and is a serious doubt for the co-hosts with less than five days before coach Frank Rijkaard has to finalise his squad for the tournament.
Holland are favourites but the loss of Davids could badly disrupt their midfield plans. Rijkaard's game is based on passing and possession and Davids is outstanding at energetically winning the ball in midfield.
An inflammation of foot tendons has seen the player sent for surgery and while the operation is not major Davids is set to miss training and warm up matches for the Dutch before the finals start on June 10th. He is such an important player that he may be included in the squad despite possible fitness problems.
