French World Cup winning goalkeeper Fabien Barthez has been confirmed as a new signing for Premiership champions Manchester United.

Barthez is having a press call at Old Trafford this afternoon after United broke the European record for a goalkeeper by paying AS Monaco £7.8 million to sign the 28 year old.

Barthez’ wages on the six year contract will see the transfer cost the English club another £6.5 million as Barthez becomes one of the highest paid players at the club.

The goalkeeper will join up with the French Euro 2000 squad tomorrow after completing the transfer.
