Georgia slumped to a surprise defeat in Latvia after they were unable to overcome an early lead taken by the home side.
Marian Pahar converted a low cross into the penalty area in the 8th minute and Latvia were able to defend this lead despite some heavy Georgian pressure. They dominated the possession of the ball but were unable to create clear scoring chances. Their passing was quick and accurate at times but the Latvian defence was able to repel their crosses and none of their speculative shots arrived on target.
