Italy managed a narrow win in Palermo over Sweden only after coach Dino Zoff made three changes at half time.
One of his trio of substitutes - Alessandro Del Piero - scored the winning goal with an 80th minute penalty after Magnus Hedman had come out of the Swedish goal and felled Francesco Totti.
Del Piero and Inzaghi had a debate about who would take the spot kick but Del Piero won the argument and settled the game which was a muted rehearsal for a clash in the Euro finals in June.
The two teams will meet again in Eindhoven on June 19 in Group B of the Euro 2000 finals.
Sweden were always organised and looked well set for the draw before a loose back pass from Mattias Jonsson forced Hedman out of goal to challenge Totti who was bearing down on goal.
Gianluigi Buffon had saved Sweden's best chance of the first half when he parried a snap shot from Stefan Schwarz.
