Belgium 2 Holland 2

First Published: Mar 29, 2000

FC Barcelona star Patrick Kluivert dragged Holland back into this match after they were 2-0 down to fellow Euro 2000 hosts Belgium.

To much surprise parts of this scrappy match emulated the 5-5 draw both sides managed in a game last September but Belgium impressed with a good opening that brought them two goals in the first 25 minutes.

Gert Verheyen sent the home side into the lead with a close range finish while Emile Mpenza hit a low drive to get the second as Belgium dominated the Brussels pitch.

Holland needed a set piece to help them back into the game and in the 44th minute Clarance Seedorf swung in a corner taht found Kluivert unmarked for a header.

A poor second half saw Kluivert grab the leveller when he reached an inswinging cross from the right to bury the chance in the 82nd minute. Seedorf then wasted the best chance of the night when he was clear in front of goal but he struck his shot high over the bar.
