Ever the bridesmaid of international tournaments a talented Spain side crashed out of Euro 2004 on Sunday. Fernando Morientes and Raul are dejected after losing 1-0 to Portugal.

Greece lose and prosper

Greece were beaten 2-1 by russia on Sunday but had done just enough to qualify for the knock-out stages. The first such feat in Greece's football history.

Gomes delivers Portugal

A 57th minute goal from substitute Nuno Gomes delivered Portugal a quarter-finals spot on Sunday and condemned Spain to the Euro scrapheap in a 1-0 win for the hosts on Sunday.

Figo on fire

Portugal captain Luis Figo gave his all to drive his side to a 1-0 win over Spain and qualify the host nation for the quarter-finals of Euro 2004 as winners of Group A.

Arm-in-arm

Russia frightened Greece with two early goals in their Group A tie at Faro but the Greeks qualified for the quarters by striking back to 2-1 before half-time, pipping Spain to second place on the goals scored ruling.

Iberian struggle

Portugal had to beat Spain in Lisbon on Sunday to qualify for the quarter-finals. The hosts took the lead in the 57th minute through Nuno Gomes. Cristiano Ronaldo here was on top form in the first half.

Russia's Dmitry Kirichenko scored the fastest goal of European Championships history after 1 minute and six seconds in their tie against Greece. They led 2-1 at half-time.
