In Plamen Markov's rejuvenated Bulgaria side Daniel Borimirov stands out as 'old school', a survivor from two World Cup campaigns and heading into his second Euro.
The midfielder has a wicked shot from either foot, and known as 'Bori' he is an esential part of Markov's line up, just as he is at 1860 Munich where he plays his club football.
He made his league debut in Bulgaria at 17 with Vidin, his hometown side, where he gained a reputation for explosive speed. Funnily enough the young Daniel had fancied himself as a Formula 1 driver.
He soon moved on to Levski Sofia where he won a league and Cup double in 1994 before heading off to Munich in 1995 after a degree of success in the USA.
On the back of his Levski Sofia form, Borimov gained an international call up with the 1994 World Cup qualification campaign and was picked in Dimitar Penev's 22 man squad that went out to America filled with hope and ambition.

Alongside the great Hristo Stoichkov Bulgaria surprisingly made the semi-finals, having defeated Germany in the quarters, before finally losing to Italy.
Small wonder he attracted the attention of a number of clubs including major interest from the Bundesliga.
He was also a key element of the Bulgaria sides that went to Euro 96 and the 1998 World Cup in France although former glories were not to be relived and first round exits were met.
With a decade of national team experience he makes a brilliant midfield foil to the dashing young captain Stilian Petrov, whom he will soon leave to his own devices, having announced his international retirement after Euro 2004.
The father of two wants to go out with a bang and has promised to improve on the semi-final run of 1994 and go one better in Portugal.
