Scotland retrieved their position ...

Scotland retrieved their position after a poor start to the second half to put themselves in with a chance of qualifying for the second round for the first time in their history.

The Scots conceded in the second minute after the break when Vidar Riseth crossed to the far post for Havard Flo to head past Leighton from an unmarked position. It was the only defensive mistake of the game by the Scots and it almost cost them dearly.

Norway showed no attacking intent at all in the first half and Scotland had the majority of possession. They could not find any clear cut chances though, two headers from Gordon Durie being the best they could manage. Norway were very neagtive.

After taking the lead the Norwegians again found it difficult to establish control and their passing was inaccurate throughout. Too many stray balls allowed Scotland to gain momentum and Burley and Collins began to spread the ball around into difficult areas for the Norwegians. Their comfort was evident by the way they kept possession in the back line and from such a move substitute David Weir collected a cross field pass, looked up and struck the ball through the Norwegian half to find Craig Burley on the run in the area between two defenders. Burley matched the fine pass with an excellent finish, lifting the ball gently over a stranded Frode Grodas into the net. It was the least that Scotland deserve. They are now likely to need a win against Morocco in the final match but Norway must face Brazil with their form shot to pieces.
