Former Tottenham coach Christian Gross has turned down the chance to manage the Swiss national team.
Gross has chosen to stay with Basle - the club he joined in the summer. He was fired by Tottenham last year but led Grasshoppers of Zurich to two Swiss championships in 1997 and 1998.
The 45 year old had been the first choice of the Swiss FA to succeed Gilbert Gress who quit three weeks ago. Basle are second in the Swiss championship at the moment.
