Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has bought his own club.

The former Manchester Unted star and Danish national team captain has bought Copenhagen club Hvidovre - a second division side.

Schmeichel has paid around £2 million to be the new owner of the club. The player has spoken of his intention to return to Denmark when his Sporting contract expires in 2001 and Hvidovre was his first professional club fifteen years ago.
