Real add Morientes to growing World Club injury list

First Published: Dec 31, 1999

Real Madrid are facing an injury crisis as they prepare for the first World Club championship in Brazil.

The Spanish club face Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia in a Group A game on January 5th and striker fernando Morientes is the latest first teamer to undergo treatment for injury.

Morientes has strained a thigh muscle in training and may take more than a week to regain fitness. Fellow striker and national team member Raul has also been missing training with an ankle problem with captain Fernando Hiero another serious doubt to start the nine day competition.

Real travelled to Brazil earlier this week without defender Julio Cesar and with continuing uncertainty over their choice of goalkeeper. The much criticised Bizarri will stand by to play as veteran Bodo Illgner is injured and out of form.
