West Ham woo Casanova

First Published: May 24, 1999

Bastia president Francois Nicolai has told 'L'Equipe' that Premiership side West Ham are set to buy Laurent Casanova.

Nicolai claims a big bid will be made this week after scouts from the London club watched Casanova play for Bastia against champions RC Lens.

Casanova is valued at £5 million and his transfer could see the release of Israeli international Eyal Berkovic in a move to Liverpool. West Ham finished fifth in the Premiership last season and will play in the Inter Toto Cup in July to try and qualify for the UEFA Cup next season.
