River Plate still keen on Ortega move

First Published: May 24, 1999

River Plate will use the money earned from the sale of striker Pedro Aimar to parma AC to finance another attempt to bring Ariel Ortega back to Argentina.

The Buenos Aires club had a £7 million offer for the midfielder rejected by Sampdoria last November but the Genovese side have since been relegated from Serie A and are looking to trim their wage bill accordingly. The former Valencia player was bought for £7 million after fine displays at the last World Cup and rejected the wages on offer in a move to Manchester United to join Samp.
