Former England International Stan Collymore is facing a drug test from club Aston Villa.
The striker, who has not played for the Midlands side since January is alleged to have smoked cannabis while undergoing treatment for depression at a private London clinic.
Under new rules Aston Villa can ask the English FA to test Collymore for drug use and if the tests proved positive they could sack the 27 year old and cancel the remaining two years of his contract worth at least £2 million.
Collymore has struggled to make an impression at Villa since joining the club back in 1997 suffering from poor form, allegations of assault on former girlfriends and more recently stress illness for which he was being treated at the Clinic with Villa meeting the costs. Collymore walked out on the club rather than play an FA cup tie and Villa failed to find a buyer to take the wayward striker off their hands. No club would even consider a loan deal for the former Liverpool star whose transfer value now appears to be zero.
