Venzia hire former Samp coach Spalletti

First Published: May 26, 1999

Venzia have signed Sampdoria coach Luciano Spalletti as their coach for next season.

The side were promoted to Serie A last summer and have survived a season in that elite league finishing in mid table.

Spalletti was fired last November by Samp - who were themsleves sent down to Serie B this season - and replaced by David Platt in his first managerial position. The experiment was disastrous and Platt's managership was terminated after only 44 days before Spaletti was re-hired to complete the season. He replaces Walter Novellino who leaves the Northern port city to take charge of SS Napoli who fired former Bologna coach Renzo Ulivieri last week.
