AS Roma are hopeful that Valencia will release Claudio Lopez for a summer transfer if they complete the signing of Darko Kovacevic.
The Real Sociedad forward is on the brink of a move to Valencia after recent talks about an £8 million offer for the Yugoslav.
Valencia scared off Fiorentina from a bid for Argentine star Lopez by valuing him at £17 million but the Italian side are hopeful that their offer of nearer £14 million will persuade the Spanish club to cash in as they have a ready replacement.
Lopez is due in Argentina next week before a trip to the US as he prepares with the national side for the Copa America in Paraguay which starts at the end of June.
