Girondins Bordeaux need a win in the French capital tomorrow to be sure of their first French championship since 1987.
Bordeaux are playing Paris Saint Germain while their title rivals and pre season favourites Olympique Marseilles are in Nantes. Bordeaux are leading OM by one point as they enter the final matches of a season that has boosted the French game considerably as the country remains buoyed \by their World Cup win in the Paris last July. Attendances and revenues are up in the top division and the unexpected challenge of Bordeaux has put them in control of the championship leading to an interest in the season that has proved beneficial for the image of a league that is now regularly providing teams for the latter stages of the European club competitions through technical excellence rather than massive expenditure.
Of course OM are a big spending club but their transfer dealings pale when some of the extravagance of the Premiership is considered.
PSG have had a poor season with the team in the verge of a major break up during the summer. The powerful scoring of Bordeaux's top scorer Sylvain Wiltord should secure the championship as OM have a difficult task to subdue Nantes. Confidence is very high in the Bordeaux camp as coach Elie Baup knows his side proved superior to OM in a very one sided 4-1 win at the end of January and that has carried their season forward with a momentum based on good team work and consistency that should secure the championship tomorrow.
