Villa chase second Colombian

First Published: Dec 27, 2000

Aston Villa are hoping to clinch the signing of their second Colombian player, having made an offer for Boca Juniors midfielder Maurico "Chico" Serna.

Just days after the Birmingham club snapped up striker Juan Pablo Angel from River Plate for a club record £9.5 million, Serna’s agent has revealed that Villa have also approached Boca about the playmaker.

Gustavo Mascardi told La Red radio that Serna had been offered a three-year contract by Villa and the transfer could go through in the new year.

Serna has missed seven months this year through injury but did play in a few games in the build-up to Boca's win in the Inter-Continental Cup and the opening league championship tournament.
