Xanthi have unveiled their own Christmas present to the fans in the form of ex-Panathinaikos boss Argentinian Juan Ramon Roca, who has been appointed as the Greek club's new coach. He replaces Giorgos Foiros, who was sacked a fortnight ago.
Former Argentina international Roca led Panathinaikos to the 1995 Champions' League semi-finals after enjoying a distinguished playing career with the club.
Greek resident Roca had been linked with a number of top-flight clubs, including Paniliakos and OFI, but chose the northern Greek side as it is "one of the most organised clubs in Greece, a club that has started a number of initiatives and offers a good environment for someone to work in".
Xanthi's major shareholder, Christos Panopoulos, paid rich tribute to his new coach. "I believe that he has visionary qualities and for now he will take over the team, but eventually he will help to build our footballing foundations," he said.
