Diego Maradona is locked in talks with Napoli about becoming their South American football consultant, having already initiated the possible transfer of Boca Juniors stars Martin Palermo and Guillermo Barros Schelotto to his old club.
Napoli’s managing director Corrado Ferlaino is currently in Buenos Aires trying to advance the audacious bid for the highly-rated striking duo, yet he is also in negotiations with Maradona about the former World Cup winner representing Napoli.
The idea was first raised at the Fifa Player of the Century awards in Rome at the beginning of December. Maradona recommended that the struggling Serie A club go for the Boca pair and Napoli put forward their suggestion that the 40-year-old work for them.
Maradona inspired Napoli to two Scudettos and a Uefa Cup triumph in his time at the club and when he left nearly ten years ago, they announced that no one else would wear the light-blue No 10 shirt.
