Fernandez plans PSG squad sell-off

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Fernandez hinted on Friday that he will wield the axe to turn his ailing side's fortunes around. Skipper Eric Rabesandratana, playmaker Ali Benarbia and defender Jimmy Algerino are set to leave.

"There will be some new faces," Fernandez told Le Parisien. "I've had a good look at the squad and I know where we need strengthening. I've defined the profiles, but I don't want to reveal any names."

Rabesandratana, who was given the captain's armband by ex-boss Philippe Bergeroo, has lost his place to former Lens and Barcelona defender Frederic Dehu.

Algerino has also barely featured since Fernandez took over at the start of December, while Benarbia is suspended following a series of run-ins with the management.

Fernandez's young team have won just one of five games since he replaced Bergeroo and PSG wallow in 11th place. With 31 goals conceded in 22 matches, only two teams have a worse defensive record than the Parisians, who finished second last season.

But Stephane Dalmat, who has struggled following his switch from arch-rivals Marseille, will not be leaving despite interest from an unnamed English club.

His agent Stephane Canard sought a meeting with Fernandez about the much-criticised midfielder and said afterwards: "He doesn't want to hear any talk of a departure."
