FC Barcelona are close to sealing the £7 million purchase of AS Monaco defender Philippe Christanval.
Christanval is due for medical checks in Barcelona this week before completing his move to the Catalan giants.
"The club are working on all possible fronts," Barca spokesman Gabriel Masfurrol said.
"Few other clubs will make as many signings as Barcelona for next season."
"The signing of Toldo has been all but discarded, though."
Masfurroll says the Barca board was not willing to sanction the £16 million purchase of Toldo with Polish international Jerzy Dudek available for £8 million.
Cruzeiro striker Geovanni has been bought for £11 million and will have medical checks next week before completing his move.
Barca have signed pre-contract agreements with Argentines Javier Saviola and Juan Roman Riquelme and Brazilian midfielder Fabio Rochemback and expect to sign Sol Campbell this week for the centre of their defence.
