Olympique Marseille have offered Standard Liege £14 million for defender Daniel Van Buyten.
OM expect to sign Brazilian striker Mario Jardel in a swap deal with Galatasary this week but the move for Van Buyten makes him the most expensive player in Belgian history.
The 23 year old was signed by Liege in 1999 from Charleroi for £200,000.
OM president Robert Louis-Dreyfus is also the major share holder in Standard Liege.
Van Buyten, Hadjuk Split top scorer Ivan Bosnjak and Bursaspor forward Okan Yilmaz all have five-year contracts with OM which were to be signed as soon as the club won its appeal for relegation from the French first division for running up debts of more than £25 million.
