Maradona loses Argentine paternity suit

First Published: Jun 29, 2001

An Argentine court has ruled that Diego Maradona has a young daughter after a short affair outside his marriage.

The recovering cocaine addict has lost a paternity suit for the second time after the case was brought in 1996 by an Argentine woman. The young girl is now five years old and Maradona has two children with his wife.

The Argentine courts appeal stated in its decision:

"We consider that the girl is an extramarital daughter ... therefore from now on she will carry the surname of Maradona."

In 1995 Italian Cristiana Sinagra brought a paternity suit against the former World Cup winner and won naming her son Diego Maradona.
