New drug scandal hits Parma and Bari

First Published: May 25, 2001

Italy's Serie A has seen two more 'non-negative' drug tests after a game between Bari and Parma AC last month.

Two unnamed players will now see their samples tested again to determine the proper result of the urine test in a procedure which has already seen SS Lazio defender Fernando Couto and Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids banned indefinitely pending disciplinary hearings after testing positive for nandrolone.

Ten Serie A and Serie B players have failed dope tests so far this season.

The Italian federation is investigating the use of dietary supplements by their clubs which have been linked to producing excessive amounts of nandrolone.
