Real Madrid seal title win

Real Madrid have won the Spanish championship for the 28th time with a 5-0 demolition of CD Alaves.

Vincente Del Bosque's team left the Bernabeu stadium to travel to the city's Cibeles after the game to join a party of more than 200,000 fans afetr clinching their first championship in Spain's Liga since 1997.

Raul scored twice in the game to give Real a nine point lead with two games to go in the season. he has now hit 22 goals for the club so far in the campaign.

England midfielder Steve McManaman was allowed to miss the 4-0 friendly win over Mexico by Sven Goran Eriksson's team on Friday night to take part in the celebrations.

"It's my first league title anywhere," McManaman said. "I never managed to win it with Liverpool and now in two years I've won the European Cup and the league. "

"This country has been fantastic to me and I hope to win even more next year."

Real coach del Bosque was happy with his achievement.

"They're the ones who've played their hearts out," he said.

"We've had some difficult moments this season but the players have coped tremendously and we've been solid throughout. With their strength and quality, the players have managed to add a page to the glorious history of this club."

"We were champions of Europe last season and now we're champions of Spain. I hope it continues for a long time."

"As I've said before, though, I've just been lucky to be the coach at a time when I've got great players with me."

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will now try again to bring Zinedine Zidane to his club.
