Valencia join hunt for Lippi

First Published: May 29, 2001

Valencia have approached former Juventus coach Marcello Lippi to join them for next season.

The attempt to keep Hector Cuper at Valencia is now dead after the Argentine accepted an offer from Inter to move to Italy for next season so former Inter coach Lippi - who is also in the frame to replace Carlos Rexach at FC Barcelona - is a candidate for Valencia.

Rexach has only been in charge for five weeks but saw his side lose 1-0 to Oviedo at home on Sunday meaning Champions league qualification for next season is now unlikely..

Barca officials intend to meet Lippi this week but Valencia are also contacting Lippi and could meet him soon as well.
