Veteran coach Luis Aragones is to quit Real Mallorca after taking them to Champions League qualification fuelling claims that he is to be the next coach of Atletico Madrid.
Valencia wanted Aragones as a short term replacement for Hector Cuper who is to join Inter in Milan later this month but the 62 year old former Real Madrid and FC Barcelona coach refusd to consider a move back to Pedro Cortes' club.
Aragones told reporters today that his decision to leave Mallorca is for "sporting reasons" and was made back in February.
Mallorca are third in the Spanish Liga and cannot finish lower that a Champions League berth for their second participation in that event.
