Hitzfeld suffers burglary and car theft overnight

First Published: May 31, 2001

Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld slept through a burglary at his Gruenwald home according to police.

The crime took place last night and comes a week after Hitzfeld took Bayern to the Champions league title in a penalty shoot out win over Valencia. He also led Borussia Dortmund to the 1997 Champions League title.

The thieves took property worth some $90,000 including his stereo, a video camera and Hitzfeld's golf bag. It then appears that they made their escape in Hitfeld's wife Beatrix's car.
