Terim talks up Fiorentina comeback

First Published: Nov 27, 2001

Fiorentina want coach Fatih Terim back at their club after his sacking by AC Milan earlier this month.

Current Fiorentina coach Roberto Mancini is set to work alongside the Turk with the Florence club also set to offer AC Milan the chance to sell back Portuguese play maker Rui Costa after his £25 million move north in the summer.

Rui Costa has failed to settle in Milan and had a much better relationship with Terim than with new Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The Turkish coach yesterday talked up a return to Florence:

“I was sent away from Florence because the management had already picked someone else, otherwise I would have never left my team. I am still very close to Florence and when I was forced to leave I began to think of how nice it would have been to come back,” he said.

“I can tell you today that if there is a new project behind Fiorentina that wants to do important things, then I am ready to return."

Two competing consortiums want to buy Fiorentina from current owner Vittorio Cecchi Gori and both are interested in bringing Terim back to the club.
