Ajax: Koeman not Van Gaal for coach

Ajax want Ronald Koeman as their new coach.

The Vitesse Arnhem boss and former FC Barcelona star is the leading candidate to take charge at the Dutch giants.

Johan Neeskens and Ruud Krol are also on a shortlist of three to lead Ajax but Louis Van Gaal is not a contender.

Former Holland coach Van Gaal will not be returning to Ajax Amsterdam as coach.

Van Gaal won the 1995 European Cup with Ajax before a spell at FC Barcelona.

He quit earlier this week as Holland coach and two days later Ajax sacked their team boss Co Adriaanse prompting speculation that Van Gaal would return to the club where he made his reputation.
