Halilhodzic heading for PSG

First Published: Dec 29, 2002

Paris St Germain have fixed up the Bosnian Vahid Halilhodzic to take over as coach at the end of the season in June.

He would take over from former French World Cup midfielder Luis Fernandez who has been in charge of the wealthy Paris club over the last two years.

The Journal du Dimanche revealed that Halilhodzic was currently under contract with another French first division side Rennes and that he would stay with them until the end of the season.

But he had already signed a contract agreeing to move to Paris when that was terminated. There was no official confirmation of the deal from either Paris St Germain or from Rennes.

Fernandez, in his second spell in charge in Paris, has been in trouble with supporters and club management over the last few weeks as the side slumped down the table.

But 10 days ago, he was told that his job was safe until the end of the season when his contract expires.

The Journal du Dimanche said that Paris St Germain also wanted to bring back in a managerial role the Brazilian Rai, a player who was popular with the club in the 1990s.
