Tottenham captain Teddy Sheringham has asked the club to be allowed to stay on next season.
Spurs postponed talks with the 37-year-old striker until the end of the season, but their hopes of qualifying for Europe were extinguished by their 2-0 defeat by Sheringham's former club Manchester United on Sunday.
That put his future at White Hart Lane in doubt.
Sheringham has been linked with Millwall, Sporting Lisbon and Dubai but he insists his first choice would be to remain at Tottenham.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed playing here and my first choice would be to stay," said the former England international, who may have to take a pay cut to earn a new deal.
Sheringham was virtually anonymous during Spurs' tame defeat by United, sparking debate over whether manager Glenn Hoddle may be better off searching for a new-look strikeforce this summer after such a frustrating season.
