Kaiserslautern crash out as Bayern Cruz through

Third division Eintracht Braunschweig, the 1967 Bundesliga champions, knocked last season's finalists Kaiserslautern out of the German Cup with a 4-1 win and turned up the heat on coach Erik Gerets.

Gerets's team, winners of the Bundesliga in 1998, sit rock bottom of the German top-flight and must now recover from an embarrassing cup exit.

German international Jens Nowotny ended 16 months of injury torment coming on as a late substitute in Bayer Leverkusen's 3-1 win over Holstein Kiel.

"His introduction was almost better than the victory," explained general manager Reiner Calmund.
