Blues turn down Everton bid for Savage

Birmingham revealed they have turned down a "derisory" bid from English Premiership rivals Everton for Welsh international midfielder Robbie Savage.

Savage fueled speculation of a move to the Goodison Park club after he revealed he would join Everton if he ever left St Andrews.

Everton boss David Moyes missed out on two midfield targets recently, with Rangers' Barry Ferguson joining Blackburn, and Fulham's Sean Davis failing to pass a medical because of a knee injury.

But Birmingham said that they would not be selling the 28-year-old before the transfer deadline closes later Sunday.

"Birmingham City Football Club can confirm that they have been contacted by Everton Football Club about the availability of their midfield player, Robbie Savage," the club said in a statement on their website.

"Birmingham City's managing director, Karren Brady said: 'The offer for Robbie was derisory to both the club and the player and has been rejected.

"We are delighted that Robbie Savage is with Birmingham City as he is a committed player and we hope he will continue to play an important part in our endeavours to succeed in the Premiership."
