Brazil's 1994 World Cup striker Romario flew out for his new job with Qatar club Al-Sad promising to act as an ambassador for his country.
Romario has signed a 1.5 million dollar three month contract with Al-Sad and is set to turn out for his new side in the quarter-finals of the Asian club championships.
"I'm going there intending to do my best as I'm representing Brazil," claimed the 37-year-old who is better known for a hectic lifestyle.
He added that his main aim now was to score "a thousand goals" - estimates currently put him 138 shy of the magic four figure target.
Romario was overlooked by then Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari for last year's World Cup, an omission that caused a public outcry amongst Romario's fans at the time.
