City striker Wanchope out for season
First Published: Feb 27, 2003Manchester City striker Paulo Wanchope has been ruled out for the rest of the season after dislocating his shoulder in training.
The Costa Rica international, who has not played a game for the Maine Road outfit this term, fell awkwardly on Sunday as he prepared for a reserve team outing and scans have revealed he must now undergo reconstructive surgery.
The 26-year-old was forced to have a knee operation at the start of the season after picking up an injury during the World Cup and his absence will be a huge blow to City's outside chances of making the top six.
"Paulo had worked so hard to get back fit again," manager Kevin Keegan said. "It is a real body blow for him."
