Much-travelled Serbian coach Bora Milutinovic looks set to take on the post of the Honduras national team, it was revealed by the Honduras Football Federation (Fenafuth).
The present handler Ewin Pavon is under pressure after Honduras failed to impress at the recent Gold Cup, finishing bottom of their group.
Milutinovic is renowned for getting superior performances out of previous international lightweights at World Cup finals.
He coached among others Mexico, Costa Rica, whom he inspired to victory over Scotland and a place in the second round in 1990, the United States, who reached the second round in 1994, Nigeria, and then guided China to their first ever finals in 2002.
"The president of Fenafuth, Rafael Leonardo Callejas, has authorised the executive board to make an offer to Milutinovic, who is the leading candidate to take over the post," said Alfredo Hawit, the Federation secretary.
