Peter Schmeichel has still not made up his mind about whether to extend his Manchester City contract beyond the summer.
The 39-year-old has been dogged by a recurring calf problem this season and admits frustration could result in him deciding to call it a day rather than play on beyond his 40th birthday.
But City boss Kevin Keegan is keen to see the veteran Dane sign on for one more campaign and is ready to give him until the last minute to make up his mind.
"Peter wants to be fit and get through to the end of the season - and then I guess we will sit down, talk about the future and make a joint decision," Keegan told City's website, www.mcfc.co.uk.
"You don't achieve what he has in the game and stay at the top at his age if you don't have tremendous focus.
"I am pleased he is back training with us. We had a period before his last injury where we weren't getting him out training but we were getting him out for games. That wasn't fair on Peter Schmeichel or us.
"We got away with it, but having him back for the Birmingham game made a difference. We knew that, and that is why we signed him. You just can't tap into experience like that all the time."
